OK so here is the deal
Just curious to find out if a community forum is even viable in this day and age so a little feedback would be appreciated. First of all my name is not Admin and I am not Muslim (not that there is anything wrong with that) The reason I started this forum was because another forum site that shall remain nameless A: Does not allow new members B: Has a habit of over moderating and preaching about TOS while breaking same. C: Censorship...I could care less about the water in Beaver Creek but try to tell me I can't talk about it (insert dirty words here) oh and an honorable mention to Stacey Gaga. D: I wanted to find a fresh and new way for our community to reach out, bitch and complain, provide support to local business and charities and above all allow it to be YOUR forum without somebody telling you "Its a private site so if you don't like it leave" ....what else can I say
About the layout. Yup its kind of all over the place but I will also be making changes....Do you want simple black on white? A little style..hey let me know
I have the the name registered for one year and intend on making a go of it and then we will see....feedback is most welcome
Regards, Tom
as a side note Yes I care about your water Beaver Creek just not the censorship regarding it...no lawyers please

Re: OK so here is the deal
I couldn't agree with you more about the need for a discussion forum that does not have a gag order in place for certain issues.
More and more people are moving to other types of social networking. Discussion forums such as this can still play a valuable role in a community if people can discuss issues without worrying about a hammer coming down on them for doing so. If we follow guidelines like a newspaper reporter would follow when writing a news report we'll be fine. It's a similar type of game.
As far as the site's appearance, I like black lettering on a white (or other light coloured) background. It is easier on the eyes. I also like the latest post to be on top.
Thanks Tom.

Re: OK so here is the deal
Thanks for making a go of it. I like this general color scheme the best so far...
I appreciate the 'commitment' on a looser chain, we'll see how long that lasts.
I do not want to be as active on here as I've been elsewhere as I do find Facebook and Twitter both more direct, and more effectual... but these forums will always serve a purpose.
What's a "Port Point?"
Cheers.
Chris

Chris you hide your Port Point with your hairdo; comb your hair differently and your point will be more obvious.
I too like this and really dislike when we get thread after thread of stuff that is only of interest to the poster and I sure like the no moderation part. I like Tek as a person but his a real piss poor moderator and Flat Liners is just that; dead from the armpits up.

WetCoastKid wrote:Hey Tom, this site is alright. I like that there is a panel of smarty pants and rednecks all waiting to tear into some fresh conversation... but things have changed online, people are learning about how carefully they need to watch what they type.
I like the dark backgrounds- gives it a nice tone, but makes seeing shit hard- (same reason I haven't replaced the burnt out light in the bathroom), I would suggest white window/text boxes for clarity sake, but thats jmo
The most important thing to me is clarity of layout and an easy way of keeping track of the post views and responses. If no one is listening, why keep talking?
Most people check their facebook newsfeed for instant world updates, like what the weather is doing every five minutes or what their friends favorite flavor of coffee is. It's all short little nonsensical ramblings about nothing... like this, but shorter. Sadly I think people have discovered a lazy bone in their fingers or maybe they just don't save up their thoughts like they once did... either way, FB has changed the digital and social landscape.
I view this as the type of place that blog authors or facebook rejects and conspiracy theorists can get together and throw some debates around. I don't know if a forum alone can hold it's own, but if you could post the forecast, a news blip and the last ten forum topics to be discussed... maybe even a panel of off-the-wall, bat-shit crazy bloggers to act as a freak show. ( Ever listen to "The Debaters") ... just a thought.
Thanks for the platform to say my piece from.
-Cheers

Hey WetCoastKid
First of all thanks for your input which brings me to a problem I found. I hit the thanks button on your post and it literally blacked it out so I hit quote and it was saved down here. Anyways THANKs and nobody touch the damn thanks button until I fix it or remove it ...please

Chris port points are a denomination that has legal tender at your place every time you and EC have got the weather forecast right in the last 3 monthschrisale wrote:Thanks for making a go of it. I like this general color scheme the best so far...

Joking of course but no they are just a gimmick like a thumbs up or a FB like button so they have no value other than to make you warm and fuzzy. But who knows I'm already approaching the half dollar mark with Google Adsense? Might have a raffle

Love the TRON font!
Thanks for re-posting my blip there. went to check on here, I saw the changes but was looking for my post- got a real LOL outa me when I saw it in the quotations!
This place is looking great and with enough advertising it may just take off.
Do you have a facebook page as a doorway to people looking for info on Port Alberni? I know it's the competition for online socializing, but it is where the people are, so why not set-up shop on their doorstep? And Wikipedia, that would be another great way to snag anyone looking for a forum based on Port Alberni.
People are still hungry for truth... sometimes a veil of anonymity is the only real way to share it.
Cheers

LOL. why? I'm willing to bet a significant portion of the remaining people are using multiple pseudonyms, and that the powers-that-be don't care anymore.
And no, I'm not

Re: OK so here is the deal
Idk. It was a big issue for awhile over there and no "proof" was found on multiple name users.chrisale wrote:

Seeing his post made me think...never admit guilt.
I don't care either. Many people had multiple names over the years.

I've only used two trainguy and possum. Too easy to forget who you are where you are if you use more than one.
