Should be a pretty good light show with the solar storm coming up tomorrow but I imagine we will be back into overcast sky by then Sad

I wonder why someone in Port Alberni would be flying the stars and stripes as is evidenced in the lower right hand corner of the video? Any guesses?? scratch

That's not my webcam. It's from Skunk bay down near Seattle. I'm still waiting on a replacement for my HD webcam or I likely would have got it last night too. A little jealous Sad Smile

Doubtful! Looking plenty cloudy. If you look up tonight you're more likely to get a raindrop in the eye than see any Aurora.

As you can see from the graph below the storm hasn't been quite as strong as the initial shock was. A "glancing blow" is what we got from what I heard on the radio this morning.

Considering the difference between now and 1989, I cringe to think of the level of disruption a Kp 9 class event would cause on todays technology-heavy world. Which is why this is a serious thing to keep track of, especially as the Sun finally returns after a long slumber over the past few years.

The storm should be over by the end of today.

Still, there are some fantastic pictures up on spaceweather.com
